Dasein - be in the moment

In deep waters

Today I want to talk about the struggle that isn’t related to creating a portfolio or taking photos. It’s about patience and believing in yourself and your work. Once you have everything set up, you’re golden. But the issue is, that if you’re not a gifted YouTuber etc. people might not get to know you and if you’re not on social media it can be extremely difficult to gain a following and customers.

So based on what I found out so far, these are the most important things to follow:

1) Choose 2 social media platforms where you post, in my case X and Instagram (even though I think that it’s saturated right now)

2) Post regularly and share experiences, thoughts on products and the photography realm

3) Share experience with people and don’t hold back

4) Get out of your comfort zone

If you remember my post from X a few days ago, you’ll know that I voiced my strong opinion on Instagram where I said that it’s quite saturated and lost its way. But there’s no denying that there isn’t another social media platform that is this content-heavy. So I do have to play the game. X on the other hand is nice and sleek. For me, it’s better than Threads which seems to be a platform where people post outlandish claims to engage in conversation. Something I don’t care about. So I decided to focus on these two sites and try to push out content regularly.

Which ties in to number two, which is to post regularly and keep people updated. Also, sharing experiences etc. is a good idea. Don’t hold back and think that if you share something you’ll lose your advantage. Like doctors, bus drivers etc. there’re a lot of photographers in the sea and we all offer different approaches to our work.

And lastly, getting out of your comfort zone means that if you shoot mostly landscapes, try to broaden your horizon and shoot something else. It might also help you to build other avenues and relationships that can help you in the future.

And most importantly, never give up!
