What is the craziest thing you have ever done for that one shot?

Once you start to love photography you do things only people who love photography will fully understand. So to answer my own question I’ll let you in on one of my biggest craziest things I have ever done. And this was completely spontaneous.

I was living in Scotland at that time, and my car was pretty old at that point. Plus I managed to overfill the oil so had the AA to come to the rescue. So once that was sorted I was thinking what I wanted to do. And a thought that came into my head was to drive to Wales and to take some lovely landscape photos. But halfway down the road I remembered that I wanted to send my friends a postcard from Stonehenge. So rather than sending them a made one, I deciced to drive down there myself. To give you an idea. I hadn’t planned anything.

I decided to just drive down there and start shooting as soon as possible. Here’s the route I took.

So after I made up my mind and punched the location into my TomTom I started driving. And in my mind I was willing to do anything to be there as soon as I got there. But after driving around 6 hours and somewhere in England I had to stop at a motorway station. I asked for a room and only one was available. I can’t remember where it was but I settled in and watched Terminator, the one with Christian Bale in it. It was an exciting time and in the morning, after some breakfast I continued driving at around 8am. It was still another few hours to Stonehenge and the weather was awful. I bought a Tesco bag and cut holes in it, so I used that as rain cover.

After having spent a full day looking for the perfect shot at 5pm I got in my car, and drove all the way back up to Scotland. I was back at 1:30 am. This was by far the craziest thing I have ever done. And you know what, it was totally worth it. Would I do something crazy again? Yes absolutely, but once you are married, you have to be mindful of your wife, or husband. But you can see some of the Stonehenge photos here: https://dasein.client-gallery.com/gallery/stonehenge

Stay happy

Chris
