The story behind the photo (3)

Today’s photo has been taken during a trip to the Scottish racetrack called Knockhill. Here’s a bit more information about this famous racetrack.

Knockhill Racing Circuit, located in Fife, Scotland, is a renowned motorsport venue known for its challenging 1.3-mile track that weaves through the scenic countryside. Opened in 1974, the circuit is famous for its tight corners, elevation changes, and demanding layout, making it a favourite among drivers and spectators alike. Knockhill hosts various major events, including the British Touring Car Championship and the British Superbike Championship, attracting motorsport enthusiasts from across the UK. Its reputation as Scotland's premier racing venue is built on its thrilling racing atmosphere and stunning backdrop.

Here’s a view from the top of this magnificent circuit. I circumvented this beauty at least 7 times in 2 days. If that’s not a stat to boast about on your stepcounter app I don’t know what is!

I arrived here for a former BTCC event. Driving up from Glasgow took me around 1.5 hours due to the traffic building up close to the circuit. Thankfully, I managed to grab a parking space right behind the pit area and so I began my adventure. The weather on the Saturday was lovely and I began my round clockwise around the circuit. My “weapon of choice” was my then D3100 with kit lenses. People always shrug their shoulders and nose when they hear kit lenses, but trust me, if you’re a good photographer these lenses will serve you well! And boy did they deliver in even some challenging situations.

The BTCC featured support races and driving competitions which was fun, and from one of those side programs you’ll see a photo of today in this post. You can also find it on my portfolio website under https://moments.augenblick.life/btccweekendknockhill/

There were some crowds but overall it was a blast to walk around the circuit and camp at different areas of the track to enjoy the cars blitzing by. The sound and smell of fuel also added to the atmosphere. Back then I was much younger than I am today (go figure!) and I spent at least 9 hours running and standing around the circuit capturing photos from all classes throughout the day. I also filmed some videos too! I repeated the same routine on Sunday but parked at a location closer to the last third of the racetrack as I wanted to get some nice shots of the last corner before the cars went on to the finish straight. Later on I also went onto the infield and took some nice shots from there, especially the start of the BTCC race which came out great. You can check my portfolio and see for yourself.

I was and am quite pleased with how the photos turned out. And here’s the shot you’ve been waiting for:
